Excellent reference. This is not a book with a lot of padding. Instead, this is a reference that provides exactly what you need and nothing you do not. It clearly describes the plants used and the colors they produce, with variations based on the different mordants, fabrics, flower heads vs leaves, boiling vs simmering processes, and other variables. The recipes are clear; the historical notes brief but interesting; and the personal notes of the author extremely useful. In particular, the author notes how the dyes take on various fabrics -- such as wool and silk vs cotton and linen -- and how they change based on the smallest variations in process. This is exactly what I needed. The author should be commended for clear, clean writing; and precise and accurate information. I have bought over 3 dozen dye references over time, and have experimented with many recipes. Not to feed the author's ego, but I find that this is the best in my collection. Frankly, this reference should be one of the craft texts retained through time.

Good Read. Helped a lot with my dyeing.
As a medieval reenactor (SCA), I wanted a simple account of what dyes were used in the medieval period and how to make them. This is exactly such a book. My only complaint is that in the format the tables are small and don't enlarge.
